I understand what you’re going through ….

After 16 years as a military civilian, I felt an undeniable pull toward a new path—one free from self-imposed restrictions, structured assignments, and the predictability of routine. With my children grown and building lives of their own, I finally had the space and freedom to shape my next chapter entirely on my own terms.

In April 2022, I made a bold decision. I sold everything I owned and embraced the unknown. The dream was clear—to explore life abroad without the safety net or restrictions of U.S. military logistical support. However, like many former federal employees transitioning to independent living overseas, I had questions:

  ❓ Where do I begin?
❓ Which country offers the best first immersion experience?
❓ How do I navigate visas, finances, and expat life without built-in support?
❓ How will I find community, connection, and stability in a foreign country?

I chose Albania for very specific reasons:
✔ A one-year stay without a visa gave me time to plan my next steps stress-free.
✔ A previous visit to Tirana showed me it was safe, vibrant, and welcoming—the kind of place I could thrive in.
✔ Within days, I met fellow expats, secured a realtor, and started building the foundation for my life abroad.
✔ Most importantly, I was ready to make the leap—armed with strategy, determination, and a willingness to adapt.

I quickly realized something …… most people struggle with where to start. The logistics, the finances, the emotional shift—it all felt overwhelming for me when I was trying to navigate this transition without support.

That’s why I created Next Chapter Nomads—to provide the guidance, structure, and mentorship that I wish I had when I first stepped into this journey. Let us help you figure out how to avoid the mistakes I made, pivot through the obstacles, and find your way to the life you are ready to live.
